The Masque of Capitalism

from Mystery Babylon by Knight of Swords

about

Lyrics inspired by Percy Bysshe Shelley's "The Masque of Anarchy"

lyrics

As I walked on Broadway
As I walked on Pine
I met the man named Murder
Clad in blue suit and badge
Night-stick and gun he had at hand
In his reign of terror across the land

Next came Fraud, and he put on
The guise of a landlord, flipping flats
Inviting suburban colonizers
Don't shake his hand, he'll give you leeches

A moderate politician, perhaps a mayor
Speaks for the people but acts against them
In the pocket of NIMBYs and finance
This is the guise of Hypocrisy

And many more Destructions played
In this ghastly masquerade,
All disguised, even to the eyes
Like bishops, lawyers, peers, and spies

Last came Capitalism, he rode
On a pale horse, splashed with blood;
He was white even to the lips,
Like Death in the Apocalypse

And he wore a kingly crown;
And in his grasp a sceptre shone;
On his brow this mark I saw -
'I AM GOD, AND KING, AND LAW!'

With a pace stately and fast,
Over America he passed,
Trampling to a mire of blood
The adoring multitude.

And those that followed him
An army of zombies, all alike
Young men, in beards and flannel
Drunk as with intoxication
Of the beer of desolation

Like a pack of locusts
